Allotments

Henlow has a sizable allotment site located towards the north of the High Street, opposite the Pit Recreation Ground.

Plots range from large full sized plots to half plots and mini plots. A half plot is usually big enough to grow sufficient produce for a family.

If all plots are allocated, we can add prospective tenants to a waiting list. When allocating plots, priority is given to Henlow Parish residents. Please contact us if you are interested in taking on an allotment by phoning the Clerk’s office 01462 811800 oremailing your name, address and phone number to assistant@henlow-pc.gov.uk

Due to the number of requests we receive and the lack of parking, we only add residents of Langford and Clifton to our non-residents waiting list.

Before deciding to take on a plot, please ensure you are able to commit the time and energy to keep the allotment in good working condition. All tenants must sign and adhere to the Allotment Tenancy Agreement.

Rent is due on 1st October each year and runs for one year to 30th September. Currently, rent for a full plot is £50.00 and a half plot is £25.00. This includes water, which is available from April to September.

A deposit of £75 is also due at the start of the tenancy. This is fully refundable at the end of the tenancy, if the plot is handed back in good condition and free from weeds, in accordance with the Tenancy Agreement. The Council reserve the right to withhold all or part of the deposit to cover costs of any work involved to prepare the plot ready for the next tenant.

The plots are inspected on a regular basis throughout the year, to ensure tenants are adhering to their responsibilities under the Allotment Tenancy Agreement.
